The Offerings for the Lord



1. Question: Who were the first to present offerings for the Lord during the old era?

Answer: The first recorded offerings for the Lord were made by Cain and Abel.

(Genesis 4:3-4, NIV) “In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. (Genesis 4:4) But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,”

2. Question: During the time of Moses, was there a commandment for the Israelites to present offerings for the Lord?

Answer: During the time of Moses, the Lord commanded the Israelites to present offerings for him.

(Exodus 20:24, NIV)  “‘Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you.

(Exodus 25:1-2, NIV) “The LORD said to Moses, (Exodus 25:2) “Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from each man whose heart prompts him to give.”

3. Question: What was the Required offering for the Lord during the time of Moses?

Answer: The required offerings for the Lord during the time of Moses was tithe of everything from the land, whether grain or fruits, sacrifices and special gifts and all choice possessions they have vowed to the Lord.

(Leviticus 27:30, NIV)A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.”

(Deuteronomy 12:11, NIV) Then to the place the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for his Name — there you are to bring everything I command you: your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, and all the choice possessions you have vowed to the LORD.

Answer: It is possible for a man to rob God?

(Malachi 3:8, NIV) Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings.”

Answer: 6.1 The example of offering done by the widow pleases the Lord.

(Mark 12:42-44, NIV)But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, [Greek: two lepta] worth only a fraction of a penny. [Greek: kodrantes] (Mark 12:43) Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. (Mark 12:44) They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything — all she had to live on.

(Luke 21:2-4, NIV) He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. [Greek: two lepta] (Luke 21:3) “I tell you the truth,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. (Luke 21:4) All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.

6.2 Offerings beyond your ability.

(II Corinthians 8:3, NIV) “For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,”

Answer: People who have the capacity to give but gives sparingly will also reap sparingly while those who gives generously will also reap generously.

(II Corinthians 9:6, NIV) “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”

Answer: The blessings from God for those who follow the right way of offering will be abundant.

(Malachi 3:10, NIV) “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

(II Corinthians 9:8, NIV) “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Summary:

It is possible for a man to rob God in giving tithes and offerings (Malachi 3:8). It is right and proper to do all the things that please the Lord. The example of giving offering done by the widow (Mark 12:42-44; Luke 21:2-4); and giving offerings beyond their ability (II Corinthians 8:3) pleases the Lord.

People who have the capacity to give but gives sparingly will also reap sparingly while those who gives generously will also reap generously. (II Corinthians 9:6). Furthermore, the blessings from God for those who follow the right way of giving offerings will be abundant (Malachi 3:10; II Corinthians 9:8). For God loves those who give wholeheartedly. It is important to know and The True Meaning according to the Holy Scriptures!
