The Different gods that can be read in the Scriptures
Q1. Are there different Gods in the Bible?
A. True, there are different Gods in the Bible.
(1) God the Father
“To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.” (Titus 1:4) (NIV)
(2) The Son of God
“8 But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. 9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” (Heb. 1:8-9) (NIV)
(3) To whom the Word of God came
“34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’? 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?” (Jn. 10:34-36 (NIV); Psa. 82:6)
(4) The god of the world (devil)
“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Cor. 4:4) (NIV)
(5) Idols
“5 “With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? 6 Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god, and they bow down and worship it. 7 They lift it to their shoulders and carry it; they set it up in its place, and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move. Even though someone cries out to it, it cannot answer; it cannot save them from their troubles.” (Isa. 46:5-7) (NIV)
Q2. What are their differences?
A. (1) God the Father
(a) No beginning
“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psa. 90:2) (NIV)
(b) All things came from Him
“yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came…” (1 Cor. 8:6) (NIV)
(c) Almighty
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.” (Gen. 17:1) (NIV)
(d) No one is like Him
“Who among the gods is like you, Lord? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?” (Exo. 15:11) (NIV)
“Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours.” (Psa. 86:8) (NIV)
(e) A righteous God
“Declare what is to be, present it— let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.” (Isa 45:21) (NIV)
(f) Not changing
““I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” (Mal. 3:6) (NIV)
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17) (NIV)
(g) The only immortal one
“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever…” (1 Tim. 1:17) (NIV)
“who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.” (1 Tim. 6:16) (NIV)
(h) Must be worshipped
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” (Jn. 4:23) (NIV)
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (v.24) (NIV)
(2) The Son of God
(a) A God that came from a God.
“For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”?” (Heb. 1:5) (NIV)
(b) First of all creation, and first of all things.
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” (Col. 1:15) (NIV)
“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Col. 1:17) (NIV)
(c) He came from God the Father
“Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me.” (Jn. 8:42) (NIV)
Note: God brought forth to Christ before he created anything, because he is the firstborn or the first of all things. He came from God, who sent Him and He descended from heaven and became flesh.
(d) God incarnate
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (Jn. 1:1) (NIV)
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us…” (Jn. 1:14) (NIV)
(e) A God that descended from the heavens in the flesh was seen by people.
“For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” (Jn. 6:38) (NIV)
“Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.” (1 Tim. 3:16) (NIV)
In the "King James Version, "God was manifest in the flesh." Therefore, it is not God the Father which manifest in the flesh, but the Son of God, that after His mission in this world, died, and resurrected by God the Father and "accepted above in glory." (Efe 1:20)
(f) Must be worshipped
“And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” (Heb. 1:6) (NIV)
“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” (Mat. 2:11) (NIV)
“9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philip. 2:9-11) (NIV)
(3) They call gods those to whom the word of God came
(a) To whom the word of God came
“34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’? 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?” (Jn. 10:34-36) (NIV)
(b) Those who have been given the right to become God's children.
“12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (Jn. 1:12-13) (NIV)
(c) They are gods that will die like humans.
“God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”:” (Psa. 82:1) (NIV)
“6“I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’ 7 But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler.” (Psa. 82:6-7) (NIV)
(d) Not to be worshipped
“But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting:” (Acts 14:15) (NIV)
“Even with these words, they had difficulty keeping the crowd from sacrificing to them.” (Acts 14:18) (NIV)
(4) The god of this world, the Devil
“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Cor. 4:4) (NIV)
(a)A cherub found in unrighteousness
“14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones.15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. (Ezek. 28:14-15) (NIV)
(b)Morning star
“12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13 You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” (Isa. 14:12-14) (NIV)
(c)He is the devil and Satan.
“The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.” (Rev. 12:9) (NIV)
(d) Not to be worshipped but should be fought
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) (NIV)
“8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” (I Pet. 5:8-9) (NIV)
(5) Idols that were created by man
“41 That was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf. They brought sacrifices to it and reveled in what their own hands had made. 42 But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the sun, moon and stars…” (Acts 7:41-42) (NIV)
(a)The idols are worthless
“15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by human hands. 16 They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. 17 They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. 18 Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.” (Psa. 135:15-18) (NIV)
(b)The gods that are of earthly nature
“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. (Col. 3:5) (NIV)
(c)Not to be worshipped
“2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods before me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” (Exo. 20:2-6) (NIV)
