The Household of God




Q1. Is there a household of God?

A. There is a household of God, as it is written.

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household,” (Eph. 2:19) (NIV)

“14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.” (Eph. 3:14-15) (NIV)

Q2. In the household of God, who is his own Son? 

A. His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh.

“For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh,” (Rom. 8:3) (NIV)

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (Jn. 3:16) (NIV)

Q3. Why is the Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God?

A. For he is the only begotten Son of God.

(a) “5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”?…” (Heb. 1:5) (NIV)

(b) He is the only God who is like God the Father

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (Jn. 1:1) (NIV)

“8 But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;…” (Heb. 1:8) (NIV)

(c) There is no other by whom God created all things.

“Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (Jn. 1:3) (NIV)

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” (Col. 1:16) (NIV)

Q4. How did the people become children of God who were made members of the household of God?

A. Upon receiving and believing in the only begotten Son of God.

“12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (Jn. 1:12-13) (NIV)

(a) Born with water and Spirit.

“Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.” (Jn. 3:5) (NIV)

Q5. What is the important right to God the Father of those who became the children of God?

A. Co-heirs of Christ.

“16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” (Rom. 8:16-17) (NIV)

Q6. What will the sons of God who are a part of His household inherit?

A. The kingdom of God.

“4 Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. 5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.” (2 Thes. 1:4-5) (NIV)

Q7. What is the assurance that the house of God is the true heir of the kingdom of God?

A. To date, the citizenship of the members of the Church of God sanctified in Christ Jesus is already in heaven.

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,” (Philip. 3:20) (NIV)

Q8. Is it this body that gets sick, that grieves and dies will inherit the kingdom of God?

A. Not this present body.

“I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.” (1 Cor. 15:50) (NIV)

Q9. Who will change our lowly bodies so that we can inherit the kingdom of God?

A. Our Lord Jesus Christ.

“who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” (Philip. 3:21) (NIV)

Q10. How happy are those who will inherit the kingdom of God?

A. Everlasting happiness in God's presence.

“3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Rev. 21:3-4) (NIV)
