The Resurrection

Q1. What is the resurrection?

A. The resurrection is the dead coming out of their graves who have been raised by the power of God the Father in Christ Jesus.

“28 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.” (Jn. 5:28-29) (NIV)

Q2. Will there only be one resurrection?

A. There is a first and second resurrection, with a thousand years interval.

“5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.” (Rev. 20:5-6) (NIV)

A. God the Father, through the Lord Jesus, who is the resurrection and power and wisdom of God. (1 Cor. 1:24)

Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.” (2 Cor. 1:9) (NIV)

“because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself.” (2 Cor. 4:14) (NIV)

“Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.” (Jn. 5:25) (NIV)

“For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” (Jn. 6:40) (NIV)

““No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.” (Jn. 6:44) (NIV)

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” (Jn. 6:54) (NIV)

“31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.” 32 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.”  (Acts 17:31-32) (NIV)

“But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?” (1 Cor. 15:12) (NIV)

Q5. What is the divine message of God's resurrection of his Son from the dead?

A. This testifies that there is a resurrection.

“12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” (1 Cor. 15:12-14) (NIV)

A. He will be saved.

“9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Rom. 10:9-10) (NIV)

Q9. Where would the Lord be with those who were first raised and those who are still alive that followed Him?

A. (a)In the reign of a thousand years.

“Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.” (Rev. 20:6) (NIV)

(b)In the judgment of this world

“I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.” (Rev. 20:4) (NIV)

Q11. After a thousand years of the reign of the Lord Jesus, what will he do in the kingdom?

A. He will give the Father the kingdom, after the judgment from the white throne.

“24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.” (1 Cor. 15:24-26) (NIV)

Q12. Why does the Lord need to do this; give the Father the kingdom?

A. That God may be all in all.

“27 For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.” (1 Cor. 15:27-28) (NIV)
